Although the Subaru Viziv Concept debuted in Geneva in March this year and the WRX study was displayed for the first time at the New York Auto Show a month later, the Japanese carmaker thought about taking both to the Frankfurt Motor Show to have something…exciting to share with visitors.

Considering there is nothing new at the Subaru stand in terms of production models either, the two concepts are a welcome addition. The Subaru WRX Concept, which has its European premiere in Frankfurt, shows the brand’s vision of an extreme four-door performance saloon.

As spectacular as it looks, it will unfortunately remain only a vision for now, as the the upcoming Subaru WRX and STI models won’t be influenced by its design.

The study is 178.0 inches (4,521mm) long, 74.4 inches (1,889mm) wide and 54.7 inches (1,389mm) tall, which makes it slightly shorter, lower and wider than the Impreza Mk4 sedan. Its wheelbase is significantly longer at 108.7 inches (2,761mm) compared to the Impreza’s at 104.1 inches (2,644mm).

Subaru only says the concept is fitted with a new turbocharged engine and intercooler, failing to provide additional details.

The second concept is the Viziv, which Subaru says is “a future-generation crossover concept that represents the new design direction and technologies that will take the Subaru brand into the future.” The study features a hybrid powertrain consisting of a 2.0-liter flat 4-cylinder turbodiesel engine with twin rear-mounted electric motors.
