Following yesterday’s first leaked photos and information, Nissan has officially revealed the GT-R Nismo Edition ahead of its debut at the Tokyo Motor Show. Nismo’s third product after the 370Z and the Juke, the GT-R Nismo is the fastest production GT-R ever, according to Nissan CEO Carlos Ghosn, turning the Nürburgring in an amazing time of 7:08.679.

A factory tuned supercar, the GT-R Nismo has been developed with input from racing. Featuring a modified bodykit for improved aerodynamics and upgraded suspension and powertrain, the GT-R Nismo is said to feel equally at home on the track and on the street.

Just like the standard GT-R, the Nismo is powered by the 3.8-liter twin-turbocharged V6 VR38DETT engine, but with race-inspired modifications that lift power to 592hp (600PS) and 652 Nm (481 lb-ft) of torque. These upgrades include new high-flow, large diameter turbochargers from GT3 racing that improve the engine’s breathing, as well as optimized individual ignition timing control for each cylinder and upgraded fuel pump that improve combustion. No performance specs have been disclosed yet.

The GT-R Nismo has a suspension setup inspired by that of the Nismo racing GT-R, with Nissan saying it combines agility, road-holding and handling without compromising refinement. The springs and custom-developed Bilstein DampTronic dampers in the front and rear suspension are specially tuned to maximize grip and progressive handling response at the limit. The suspension has three modes: Comfort, Normal and R – the latter recommended for the racetrack. The car also features a 17.3 mm (0.68in) hollow rear anti-roll bar and rides on exclusive Nismo tires developed by Dunlop.

Design-wise, the GT-R Nismo features new front and rear bumpers, side skirts, and a massive rear spoiler that contribute to increase downforce by more than 100kg (220 lbs) at 300 km/h (186 mph) compared to the freshly updated 2014 GT-R model. The black 6-spoke wheels are inspired by Nissan’s legendary GT500 race car, with the carmaker also offering an exclusive color for the bodywork called Dark Matte Grey.

On the inside, the carbon-fiber-backed reclining Recaro seats dominate the cabin, with other noticeable upgrades being the Alcantara-wrapped three-spoke steering wheel with red center mark and red stitching, the combi meter with a carbon-like finish and the red tachometer.

The Nissan GT-R Nismo will be available in Japan in late February 2014, with U.S. and Europe deliveries to follow later in 2014.

As mentioned, Nissan has confirmed a 7:08.679 lap time at the Nürburgring Nordschleife, which makes the new GT-R Nismo (in a configuration with track options that will be available to order by customers) holder of the volume production car lap record at the German track.
