After reports surfaced about the new 2015 Mustang allegedly sporting a Burnout Control System that will allow drivers to create a perfect cloud of tire smoke, we’re now hearing via Top Gear magazine that the newly introduced BMW M3 sedan and M4 Coupe will come with a similar system.

We don’t have the press release in our hands yet, but TG reported that BMW officials call it the “Smokey Burnout function”.

There’s no word if it’s a standard or optional feature, nor how it works – speculation has it that the systems on both the BMW and Ford may lock the front brakes allowing the rear tires to turn like crazy, but between you and me, that doesn’t sound like something that would sit well with the warranty departments…

We will report on any updates we receive on the matter.

Thanks to Kevin from Bimmerpost for the heads up!
