That has to hurt (GM I mean); Chevrolet’s newly launched 2015 SS sports sedan had a bad day while performing pace car duties at the NASCAR race in Daytona Beach, Florida, on Saturday night.

While leading the field and right before the final leg of the season-opening Sprint Unlimited exhibition race, the Holden Commodore-based SS driven by pace-car driver Brett Bodine caught fire (it seems to have started from the rear end of the vehicle) and smoke filled the cabin.

Bodine and his co-pilot had no problem pulling over and jumping out to safety, but the race organizers had to bring out a replacement pace-car to complete the race.

You can watch the incident unfolded in the video below the break.
