Cadillac is reporting that its manual gearbox-equipped ATS sedan has so far proven to be a hit. Ever since the first pre-production cars received bad review marks for the vague gearshift, they’ve reportedly addressed the problem in the series production cars which have a more positive feeling when shifting.

Apparently, some cars built at the very start of the production run had to be retrofitted with new revised boxes as they all came with the vague shifter that had previously been criticized.

A reported five percent of ATS owners have so far gone for the stick shift option, and that’s according to Caddy mainly due to the age range of its buyers, twenty percent of which are between 24 to 35 years old (and apparently more prone to going for the manual).

However, Cadillac is not resting on the preliminary success of the option, and it’s said to still be working on refining the feeling and operation of the shift even more still. This is good news for keen drivers everywhere who will like the ATS more because of it.
