From a car enthusiast’s perspective, I never quite understood the allure of turning your run of the mill family sedans into equally mind-numbing coupes and convertibles, but I guess they must make some kind of sense from a financial (…and rental company) point of view.

Chrysler still has one of those in its arsenal, the older-generation 200 Convertible, even though production ceased in October of 2013. Officially, the Detroit brand has said it has no plans for a drop version of the all-new 2015MY 200.

Arguably, the new 200 offers a far better base to give birth to a two-door model than the previous generation, but is it good enough, in terms of design and mechanical components, to underpin a coupe and/or a convertible?
