The fat lady may be preparing to sing her song for Australia’s car manufacturing theater, but Ford’s local development team will continue to exist helping out with the creation of new models like the Ranger-based SUV that will be born from the test mule you see in these pictures.

While this combines the main body from the Ranger pickup truck with the rear-end of the current Ford Territory, the production car will look very different.

In fact, you don’t need to use your imagination to figure out its appearance, as Ford previewed the upcoming traditional body-on-frame SUV with the Australian-designed Everest Concept, just last summer.

Ford has said that the production Everest (we don’t know yet if the name will be used in all markets) will be a true off-roader, offering seating for seven passengers. There’s no set introduction date yet, but it is believed that Ford will present the SUV by 2015. And given that the Ranger truck won’t be coming to the U.S., don’t expect to see the SUV either.
