In your opinion, what’s the biggest complaint about GM’s new 2014 Chevrolet SS, and to some extent, its Holden Commodore brethren? If you ask Matt Farah from The Smoking Tire, it’s the lack of pizazz in the styling department – he says “it looks exactly like a Malibu“. I wouldn’t fully agree on the last statement, but I think he’s right overall.

While I am a fan of understated designs, you have to draw the line somewhere, and the front and rear ends of the SS look like they came out of a Korean styling studio from the beginning of the previous decade…

And given that production of the current generation will end with the closure of Holden’s Australian manufacturing operations in 2017, it’s debatable whether GM has enough time and/or interest to amend this with a facelift.

Nevertheless, the SS seems to have plenty of character in other areas, especially under the hood with the C6 Corvette-sourced LS3 V8 that peaks at 415hp and 415 lb-ft of torque, while it also comes with a reasonable price tag of $43,475.

Below you will find Farah’s test-drive of the new SS along with a fresh gallery of photos.
