Not all BMW fans have taken kindly to the firm’s first ever MPV-style and front-wheel drive car, the 2-Series Active Tourer (AT), but to be frank, ever since the experiment with the Rover Group failed (Mini excluded), the Bavarians have been expanding the reach of their two core brands towards every direction, so a move like this was to be expected.

While ditching rear wheel drive, the 2-Series AT minivan tries to keep up with all other BMW trends and traits, including the availability of an M Sport package that gives it an edgier look and purportedly, sportier handling.

We knew about it, but this is the first time we’ve seen the compact model wearing the M Sport goods that adorns the exterior with more aggressively styled front and rear bumpers, a shadow line treatment for the window trims, bespoke 17- or 18-inch wheels, side skirts, chrome exhaust tips, M badging at the side, specially styled brakes and high-gloss black double kidney grille.

In addition, the Estoril Blue paintwork seen on the display model is unique to the M Sport package.

Interior-wise, there are M-specific door sill finishers, multifunction leather steering wheel, footrest and shift lever, plus a BMW Individual anthracite roof, blue contrast stitching in the instrument panel and sports seats upholstered in a combination of “Micro Hexagon” fabric and Alcantara, or alternatively, in black leather with blue stitching and M piping. Owners also get a unique three-color BMW M vehicle key.

Finally, the car’s stance, and according to BMW, handling as well, are improved via an M Sport suspension with a 10mm reduction in ride height.
