Eagle’s Low Drag GT was based on the Jaguar E-Type and only three actual racing-oriented models were built in the 60s – one by the factory, and the other two were the work of “privateers.”

Now, the Low Drag GT has been breathed upon with new life, but still stays true to most of its values and improves everything there is to improve to also make it a luxurious and bespoke feeling car that works on the road.

EVO’s Henry Catchpole was fortunate enough to be granted some wheel time, and having previously driven the sexy topless Speedster, he already knew what the brand and the car were about. However, this roofed version is arguably even more unique-looking than the open top variant, and like the first one it too is a mix of recognizable, original elements, this time from the three proposed actual low drag coupes built in the 60s.

Catchpole’s expression really says it all, while he’s on the road, and he especially praises the 4.7-liter aluminum block straight-six with close to 400 hp that only has under 1,100 kg to push around (helped by the slippery shape too) – sixty comes up in around 4.5 seconds and top speed is rated at 280 km/h (175 mph).

Truly a wonderful car, just a shame they want so much money for one, far exceeding the original value of an E-Type; sure they put in a lot of work to make these feel bespoke, but as Eagle’s Paul Brace said in the video, “it’s still a Jaguar E-Type” and £650,000 seems like a lot of dosh, whichever currency you convert it into…
