As Volvo is keen to point out, the Estate Concept is the third (pretty stunning) show car that they’ve revealed in the last year, and it along with the other two, the XC Coupe (also on display in Geneva) and the Concept Coupe is showing the way forward for the brand’s future designs.

Revealed to the public for the very first time at the Geneva motor show, the estate is the culmination of decades of making iconic load luggers whose shape slowly changed from blocky and angular to the flowing designs we see today.

However, unlike the first two concepts that put emphasis mostly on their exterior appearance, the Geneva estate is more about its interior, and interior that has been smartened up via an Apple-developed touchscreen interface. It is similar (but smaller) to that of the Tesla Model S, but its graphics and the way it operates looks quite different to that of the electric sedan.

The show played host to another very pretty interior, though this one was available for all to prod and look at closely: that of the new Audi TT, a very nice design achievement in its own right, and it shows that manufacturers are still approaching the same challenges in different and unique ways.

It’s undecided, though, which of the two is more impressive, keeping things in their proper context: one is a concept while the other is not, though both are meant to be functional and look pretty.
