Of course it’s not, but can you blame us for the reference to Back to the Future? Truth to be told, the Bugatti Veyron still looks as fresh and goes as fast (or even faster in Super Sport trim) as it did nine years ago, but the road for one of the world’s quickest and most powerful series production cars ever is coming to an end – in December of 2013, Bugatti sold its 400th Veyron and production is capped at 450 units.

There have been plenty of reports on what kind of car will replace the two-door Veyron, with Bugatti initially planning to release a stupendously fast, 1000PS four-door model based on the 2009 Galibier Concept, but this year, both the firm’s boss Wolfgang Schreiber and VW Group chief Martin Winterkorn said the company decided otherwise and will instead build another hypercar like the Veyron.

Today, our spies captured what appear to be the first test mules for the next Bugatti model wearing the Veyron’s body. The more eye-catching of the two is the white model sporting an aluminum structure on top of the engine, while our spies said that the black Veyron appeared to have “slightly wider fenders and tracks” along with extra hole cut in the rear bumper.

At this point, all we can do is speculate on what Bugatti is testing, but for what it’s worth, Winterkorn has mentioned that the Veyron’s replacement will have more power than the 1,200 PS (1,184 HP) and 1,500 Nm (1,106 lb-ft) Veyron Super Sport and Grand Sport Vitesse.
