For the first time ever, Chevrolet is offering the Corvette Z06 in a Convertible form and unlike most other performance coupes turned into drop-tops, including the BMW M4 Convertible, this one doesn’t come with the main drawbacks associated with the genre, such an increase in weight and loss of structural rigidity – or so GM claims.

The ability to fully enjoy the warmth of sun and scents of spring and summer (or city smog) aside, GM’s topless mistress gets the same set of modifications as the Z06 Coupe, including, of course, the new 6.2-liter supercharged V8 delivering “at least 625 horsepower and 635 lb-ft of torque”.

According to GM, “the Z06 Convertible will be one of the most capable convertibles on the market – matching the coupe model – with 0-60mph [96km/h] acceleration in less than 3.5 seconds”.

For pricing details, you’ll have to wait a little longer as GM isn’t ready yet to share that information.
