Colin Furze from the UK is the builder of the world’s fastest mobility scooter, a heavily disputed title, no doubt… His creation is built around a standard-looking scooter that hides a two-stroke petrol engine where he electric motor and batteries used to sit.

Confirmed by Guinness as the world’s fastest such vehicle, its creator says it can reach 70 mph (112 km/h), but that he has gone as high as 82 mph (131 km/h). Apparently, when he did that run, the rear tires gave in just as he was already slowing down to stop.

As Colin rightly says, he’s perhaps thought of by many as slightly zany, but those who do get and appreciate his work don’t really see him that way. Check out his story and some of his contraptions in the CarThrottle video posted after the virtual jump. A run of the mobility scooter is obviously included too.
