More details arise to flush out the upcoming Aston Martin Lagonda story. Apparently, the car will be made by Aston’s exclusive Q department that usually handles their special projects and numbers will be extremely limited.

UK magazine CAR says “fewer than 100 units are mooted,” and that would be a shame since a car like this could really have brought Aston more into the mainstream, with direct rivals like the Mercedes S-Class, Maserati Quattroporte or Jaguar XJ.

The same source adds that the model will share its V12 engine with the rest of the range, though it will be mated to an updated eight-speed autobox.

We hope they’re wrong, and some kind of AMG twin-turbo magic will find its way under the very long bonnet of the new Lagonda – it’s a modern car and Aston’s V12 just isn’t all that modern, also bearing the preconception that it was made by welding two Mondeo V6 engines together like 15 years ago.
