The recently refreshed Meriva has received Opel’s all-new 1.6 CDTI turbo diesel engine that is available in three output levels: 134hp (136PS), 109hp (110PS) and 94hp (95PS). The latter acts as the base diesel engine for the Meriva and is also the most economical, with an average consumption of 4.0 l/100 km (58.8 mpg US) and CO2 emissions of 105 g/km.

The base 94hp engine comes with Start/Stop as standard and is available with a low-friction six-speed manual transmission. The unit has the same output as the previous generation 1.3‑liter diesel which it replaces, but a considerably increased torque, by 100 Nm to 280 Nm (206 lb-ft).

With this engine, the Meriva has earned the best A+ energy efficiency label in Germany. Already complying with the future Euro 6 emission standards, the 1.6 CDTI features the Lean NOx Technology (LNT), which features a special LNT catalyst that stores the nitrogen oxide. When the storage capacity is used up, the engine management system automatically begins regeneration. Opel’s LNT system is entirely maintenance-free.

The Opel Meriva with the new entry-level diesel engine is available from €19,150 ($26,030) in Germany, including VAT.
