A matte black Skoda Octavia RS prototype (or vRS for the British Isles), wearing the Audi TT RS Plus’ black and red 19-inch (?) wheels and sporting quad instead of the regular model’s twin exhaust pipes has us believing that it could be the rumored special edition RS variant to mark the performance sub-brands 40th anniversary.

The tester also had a modified air dam on the front bumper to allow for extra cooling, though, it’s clearly a non-production piece.

While the current Octavia RS employs a 2.0-liter turbocharged petrol good for 217hp (220PS), the talk on the street is that Skoda could use the slightly more potent 227hp (230PS) 2.0-liter engine from the VW Golf GTI Performance, or more likely, the 276hp (280PS) unit from the Seat Leon Cupra 280, in which case, the car could be named the RS280.

It’s unclear if the RS280 would keep a front wheel drive layout adding a limited slip differential into the mix, or if Skoda will opt to give it all-wheel drive.
