Launched at the New York Auto Show in April, the all-new seventh-generation Hyundai Sonata got a promising preview from Consumer Reports, which saw it as a very competitive proposition in its segment.

At the time, their opinion was only based on checking out the car at the auto show, but now Consumer Reports got to drive the new Hyundai Sonata and offered additional feedback.

CR’s Tom Mutchler says the new model may not be as much of a looker as it was before (as always, styling is a very subjective matter), but it appears to have a more solid feel compared to the previous generation. He also says the new roofline and larger glass area improve visibility for the driver, while access to the spacious rear seats is easier than before.

The review describes the Sonata as being more silent than before, with a more accommodating driving position and simple controls with big knobs and buttons. Overall, the new Hyundai Sonata is seen as an improvement compared with the previous generation.
