The most rugged member of Fiat’s city car family, the Panda Cross, will arrive in showrooms across Europe in September, which is why the Italian carmaker has released a new photo gallery and detailed information about the four-wheel drive mini car.

Based on the Panda 4×4, the Panda Cross features improved off-road capabilities thanks to its “Torque on demand” all-wheel drive system with two differentials and the Electronic Locking Differential function. The Panda Cross also introduces an exclusive feature in its segment, the Terrain Control selector for off-road driving with its three modes (Auto, Off-road and Hill Descent Control).

The Fiat Panda Cross is available with two engines, a 1.3-liter four-cylinder MultiJet II turbo diesel with 80 PS (79 hp) and 190 Nm (140 lb-ft) of torque and a 0.9-liter two-cylinder TwinAir Turbo petrol engine with 90 PS (89 hp) and 145 Nm (107 lb-ft) of torque. The latter features specific 6-speed gearbox with short first gear and averages 4.9 l/100 km (48 mpg US) on the combined cycle, with CO2 emissions of 114 g/km.

However, most customers will go for the diesel, which suits the character of the car better. It is more economical too, at 4.7 l/100 km (50 mpg US) and emits 125 grams of CO2 per kilometer.

Additionally, compared to the Fiat Panda 4×4 the Panda Cross has better approach and departure angles (24° and 34°) as well as ramp angle (+1°). Ground clearance is significant too: 161mm (6.3in) for the TwinAir model and 158mm (6.2in) for the heavier MultiJet version.
