If you’re an American with a grandfather that was into cars and went to Europe to take part in the Second Great War, then he’ll most likely have heard about the early MG T-Series, or so the story goes.

These lightweight two-seater sports cars were conceived in the late 20s, early 30s, but since retooling from making planes and mortar rounds to making cars was laborious and expensive, they were put back into production pretty much unchanged when peace was reinstated on the continent.

They kept them in production until 1955 – this particular one is a 1953 model and one of the last 77 ever made.

Its owner, who has had it for six months after he purchased it as an unfinished restoration, completed the refurbishment job and now wants $23,000 for the car. He insists it’s not one of those vehicles that disappoint when seen in person – by his account, it’s a car that exceeds expectations, having been put back together by specialists.

He says it’s pretty much all original, with a numbers-matching (rebuilt) engine, but with a new ivory exterior finish and completely redone green leather interior.
