Some said Chris Bangle’s bubble-butted and droopy-eyed BMW 7-Series E65 would age like a fine bottle of wine and win us over in the years to come. Hmm… I’m still not seeing that 13 years later; perhaps we need another decade or so to appreciate the design?

In stark contrast to the 2000s 7-Series E65, BMW’s 1990s E38 7-Series and E39 5-Series are widely considered as two of the best-looking modern Bimmers – I’d call them classically elegant and timeless.

Now, why anyone would take a beautiful 1997 BMW 540 E39 and try to give it a Bangle face-and bum-lift is beyond me, but it happened, and the owner has now listed his creation for sale on eBay.

You may or may not be surprised to learn that there are some 20 bids for the car, with the highest one standing at $7,200, without meeting the reserve price.
