When entering the highly-competitive premium compact SUV segment, it goes without saying that a product needs to offer the best of all worlds.

The Lincoln MKC, a model from which the brand has high expectations, doesn’t quite manage to do that. Or at least that’s what the latest review of the SUV conveys. First, the positives: Consumer Reports says the MKC has a nice and quiet interior, with luxury touches and a more practical MyLincoln Touch infotainment system.

However, there are quite a few things that could have been better: luggage space isn’t big enough and the MKC is not sporty or fun to drive. That’s pretty disappointing, considering that its German rivals (Audi Q5, BMW X3 and Mercedes-Benz GLK) all handle better. Not to mention the sporty Lexus NX.

Oh, and if you were tempted by the MKC’s optional 285hp 2.3-liter EcoBoost engine, Consumer Reports’ Tom Mutchler says you shouldn’t bother. The engine is not worth the premium over the base 240hp 2.0-liter EcoBoost unit. Scroll down for the complete review.
