The Lexus RC-F has the clear goal of taking the fight to the recently launched BMW M4. It’s got the same basic ingredients, albeit with two more cylinders and no turbocharging and its immediately noticeable defining feature is its much more daring styling – BMW would have never ever done stacked exhausts like this…

It’s still pretty new, so not everybody in the trade has gotten their hands on one, but AutoGuide were among the first to get a video review up. Their impressions of the car are balanced, and judging from what we see here in isolation, it’s not exceptional in any way, but for maybe the noise which its Bavarian rival no longer has.

Handling wise, it’s deemed competent and secure, not necessarily being a drift-ready machine – a more incisive driver/reviewer could have probably wrung more out of it on a track.

Should you be considering buying one, you will be rewarded with contemporary performance numbers and exterior styling that will get you noticed far more than anything else in its respective bracket.
