Hyundai is reportedly looking to create a sports car for the European market, but it’s not going to be one to follow in the footsteps of the old fwd Coupe.

In fact, the proper way for it to introduce its new “N” performance badge on a road car would be with something properly sporty, like a road-going derivative of the beautiful Italian-designed Passo Corto concept (pictured).

Autocar spoke with Hyundai’s Euro Managing Director, Allan Rushforth, who confirmed “there is an appetite” for a sports car. He did clearly state, though, that it won’t be something like the Audi TT, because “cars like these … create a huge demand when they’re new, but then that dies off quickly. It’s about demographics, too. The buyers of the old Coupé no longer want these cars.”

Whatever they decided to go for, we do hope it will be a lot like the aforementioned concept, as it will be a revelation for the brand’s global image, since the sporty model won’t be confined exclusively to European shores – it’d be designed to compete all around the world.
