It’s always shocking to see a drag race between a Formula One car and a production car, no matter how powerful and fast the latter may be.

And one can’t say the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Black Series is not a powerful sports car. With 631PS (622hp) and 634Nm (468 lb-ft) from a naturally aspirated 6.2-liter V8 engine mated to a seven-speed AMG Speedshift DCT 7-speed transmission, the coupe sprints from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in just 3.6 seconds.

The only problem is that the other Mercedes-Benz that takes part in this drag race is a 2012 W03 Formula One car. It’s also powered by a V8 engine with a displacement of 2.4 liters and 760 hp. While the power advantage of the F1 car is significant, it’s the weight that drags the SLS AMG Black Series down.

Tipping the scales at 1,550 kg (3,417 pounds), it’s more than twice as heavy as the F1 car, which weighs just 650 kg (1,433 lbs). I guess you see where this is going…
