Another Try at Rendering a Ford Mondeo ST

Last time we posted a speculative rendering of a Mondeo ST, the comments section went crazy with people demanding that Ford make it.

We too want to see it happen, but the chances to see one are below slim, so let’s continue to kid ourselves with yet more made up interpretations…

This one, the third so far, is the work of Theophilus Chin. It doesn’t differ much in terms of design to the other, featuring a prominent grille, subtle body mods and larger wheels, while at the back it gets (inexplicable) quad exhausts.

At least this one gets a more unique front bumper design, looking a bit like that of a Maserati Gran Turismo.

Still, no matter how many renderings people will make and keep making, Ford will not build another Mondeo ST. The last one they did was really good and will stay a (rare) sought-after model for years to come – it probably wouldn’t make for a huge investment on the manufacturer’s side, since they would not need to re-engineer the car, just enhance it…

I’ve liked the new Ford Fusion/Mondeo design from the jump. Seeing as how Ford already has the Mustang, and now the new Focus, a Fusion ST or Fusion RX would need to be really special to stand out. I’d call it the RX, because it would need to have all wheel drive to make sense as a performer. The Focus already handles the front drive performance niche for Ford. It would also need power that puts it between the Mustang, and Focus. So, about 365HP would be about right. The six cylinder Ford Ecoboost motor would do just fine. A dual clutch tranny is a no-brainer. Pricing it right would be important also. I think the low 40,000 dollar mark would be about right. Finally, make between 7 and 10,000 of them, and you’re golden!
