What? Didn’t you guys know this is how car manufacturers transform their models when they reach a certain mid-life “crisis”? Ok, so maybe the video is a bit (a lot) exaggerated, but it’s still nicely put together.

This ad isn’t just for the Asian market, as we’ve seen plenty of other outlandish ideas out there when it came to car commercials. Mercedes just had a tortoise drive an AMG-GT S – which, if you like your ads mature and relevant, is even harder to believe than this spaceship-looking thing serving as a changing booth for the i40 Sedan.

Of course, Michael Bay’s Transformers movies came to mind as soon as we watched the..transformation take place, but to be fair, it only took the Hyundai a split second to change into a newer version of itself – while it took Optimus, Bumble Bee and the rest of the gang somewhere between 4-6 seconds to fully change shapes. I never figured out why that wasn’t enough time for the bad guys to just catch them off guard and shoot them.

Now back to the i40 and its now more environmentally friendly 1.7 liter turbodiesel engine. It delivers either 115 HP or 141 HP, and you can pair this more powerful version with a 7-speed dual clutch automatic gearbox.

It’s a good all-rounder and it should fair well on multiple markets. Still, Hyundai has got ways to go before they can challenge the Passat, Mondeo and 508 as far as performance, refinement and cabin quality.
