Next Audi A4 Could Get Electrified e-Quattro AWD System

According to a recent report, the next generation of Audi’s A4 sedan may feature a hybrid-integrated Quattro system. It will use two electric motors, one in the transmission case and one on the rear axle – the rear wheels will no longer be connected via prop shaft to the engine; they will be fully electrically-driven.

Peugeot and Lexus already use similar systems, and in Audi’s case it would allow for normal front-wheel drive with no electric assistance, a rear-wheel drive EV-only mode, as well as actual all-wheel drive. Maximum total combined power is 408 hp, although lower-powered versions will be offered.

Apparently, this will allow for improved torque vectoring and control – it should translate into improved and/or more reassuring handling in all conditions.

Along with it, Audi is said to also debut wireless charging, meaning the system will be built with plug-ins in mind, although once it’s implemented, we’ll have to think about calling them something else.
