Our friend Rosen snapped these shots of a camouflaged MINI prototype in Europe over the weekend.

“Yesterday I spotted the Mini Cabrio,” he told Carscoops. “It was driving around the streets of Zagreb, Croatia, and at first, I thought that someone just painted their MINI in the color scheme known for Mini test vehicles. But then I saw the ‘WERKSTESTWAGEN’ sign on the rear bumper so maybe it is the real deal.”

Yes, it is indeed real, Rosen, with the next open Mini retaining the same fabric soft top and four-seat layout as its two predecessors. The Mini Convertible (or Cabrio) will carry over the all the styling traits of the new-generation Mini hatch.

It will be available initially in Cooper and Cooper S editions in the fall of 2015, with a range-topping John Cooper Works (JCW) version featuring Mini’s new 228hp (231PS) 2.0-liter turbo four paired to either a 6sp manual or a 6sp Steptronic auto to follow in the first half of 2016.

Thanks to Rosen for the scoop!
