As a driver, pedestrian crossings are probably the number one thing to watch, as a failure to stop the car when someone crosses the road can result in serious injuries or even death.
That’s all the more important during winter, when slippery roads increase braking distances. The following video captured by a dashcam in Russia illustrates perfectly why extra attention is needed when pedestrians are preparing to cross the road.
The footage shows an old lady waiting at a crosswalk for cars to stop so she can get to the other side of the road. When a car stops, she starts crossing, but before she even reaches the middle of the road a truck that couldn’t stop in time enters the opposite lanes and appears to go off the road.
