The 2016 Hyundai Elantra GT sports a big new grille and more comprehensive in-car technology to keep it ahead of that 2015 VW Golf and all of its “Of The Year” awards.

Or maybe it’s just because Hyundai thought because the Elantra GT (Hyundai i30 to those of you in Europe) has been on sale since 2013, it was time to give this compact hatch a little attention. Starting with that big, new face. It looks like it was ripped right off of the Sonata line. I wouldn’t go so far to say it’s ugly, just surprisingly bold. New 17-inch wheels are also part of the 2016 revisions.

Inside, the 2016 Elantra GT gets a bit more interesting. Aside from newly available and rare-in-this-class ventilated front seats, the Elantra GT gets one of Hyundai’s first applications of its next-generation BlueLink telematics system, with features such as diagnostics, driving information and vehicle maintenance and recall history. The navigation system has also been upgraded to the version used in the redesigned Sonata and Genesis models. And soon, Hyundai will offer its BlueLink smart watch app, if you’re into checking on your car from the comfort of your smart watch.

Hyundai says the 2016 Elantra GT will be in showrooms in March.
