Northern Sweden this time of year is no place for a convertible Rolls Royce, unless the person behind the wheel is an engineer and said car is a tester.

Our spies caught up with a camouflaged prototype for the upcoming convertible edition of the Wraith, which may use the Drophead Coupe moniker, though, there have been rumors of a completely different name, possibly from Rolls Royce’s past.

Already confirmed for production in mid-2016, the Wraith Drophead Coupe will join Rolls-Royce’s rapidly expanding line-up as the firm’s second open-top model after the bigger and more expensive Phantom Drophead Coupe.

While the tester seen here features a hardtop, the production car will get a traditional cloth cover over the cabin area. Besides the styling of the roof, the rear end of the car will also differ from the rakish tin-top Wraith.

We don’t expect any surprises under the hood where power is likely to come from the same 6.6-liter twin-turbocharged V12 engine with 624hp (633PS) as the Wraith.
