After his crash in Barcelona on February 22, McLaren-Honda driver Fernando Alonso walked away with a slight concussion, which is now keeping him off the grid in Australia.

McLaren insists that Alonso is “entirely healthy from neurological and cardiac perspectives” but doctors have advised the Spaniard not to compete in the March 15 race. The reason is just being precautious, since after such a crash, it’s recommended to limit future risk factors that could result in sustaining another concussion.

In other words, you can walk away with one, but do try not to sustain a second one shortly after. We can’t blame Fernando for heeding the doctors’ warning and sitting this one out.

Last years McLaren-Mercedes driver Kevin Magnussen will race the Honda-powered McLaren next weekend in Melbourne and if the car actually manages to perform well (a big “if”), we expect him to maybe even score some points.

Magnussen did finish with 55 points last year, ahead of more experienced drivers such as Ferrari’s Kimi Raikkonen or Lotus‘ Romain Grosjean.

Alonso is still expected to return for the second race of the 2015 F1 season on March 29 in Malaysia.
