A problem with the Toyota RAV4 EV and its Tesla-developed drivetrain has forced the Japanese automaker to recall the roughly 2,500 electric vehicles it produced in a short-lived relationship with the California company.

According to Bloomberg, a glitch in the car’s software could force the car into neutral, resulting in a loss of power and increasing the risk of a crash. It’s a problem with a part of the system Tesla developed. Toyota has not revealed how soon the software fix would be available.

The RAV4 EV was released in 2012 and available only in California. It used a Tesla-derived battery pack and powertrain, the result of that company’s tie-up with Tesla.

Production ended last year when the two companies dissolved their battery supply deal.
