Not too long ago, it would have been very difficult to have a serious conversation with somebody while trying to justify buying a Porsche Cayman over its 911 sibling. Ah, good times.

This, the Cayman GT4 is as you know, a 380 HP flat-six engined beast, with plenty of 911 GT3 components which help it get from 0 to 100km/h (62mph) in 4.4 seconds.

That’s really fast, especially considering the fact that the Cayman GTS PDK would need 4.8 seconds to hit the same mark.

Watching the GT4 accelerate is a real rush. It feels pure and it sounds raw and unfiltered – which will make any driver feel that there’s more of a connection between himself and the car.

Even with the loss of traction off the line, this was one seriously good launch. The gear changes weren’t as quick as humanly possible but that’s because it’s got a 6-speed manual and “humanly possible” isn’t really trending anymore when you’ve got computers doing things much faster than you ever could.

Still, we love this car and by the looks of it so does everybody else.

It’s not so much a replacement for the 997 “manual” GT3 (which many people missed having around), as it is an alternative for those who want more of an analog experience behind the wheel of their state of the art sports car.
