It seems that ever since it came out, the Boxster hasn’t exactly been high on anybody’s list of dream cars. Perhaps that’s about to change with this newer and faster version.

Ever since finding out the new Deadpool movie is going to be Rated-R instead of that frightful PG-13 nonsense, we’re really feeling like calling things as they are. And what the Boxster really is, is underrated and then some.

For some reason people just haven’t been thinking Boxster (or Cayman for that matter) when considering buying into the Porsche family. Sales figures more than just back us up as the Cayenne, Panamera and the 911 are Porsche’s best selling models by far. It’s not even close.

Sure, we’re all familiar with the Boxster’s image “problem” and mean spirited people saying that it’s a “girl’s roadster” or a “hairdresser’s car” like the now unemployed Jeremy Clarkson used to say back in the day.

Look at it this way, not even tuning companies have been particularly interested in getting their hands on them. When’s the last time you read about some crazy tuned Boxster? We had a piece about a slightly modified one back in the summer of 2013.

So yes, that’s pretty much all the respect this car gets. And it’s unfortunate really, because deep down, behind anything superficial that we might be feeling towards the car, the Boxster is one seriously epic driver’s car.

Therefor we’re glad to see Porsche taking things a little further and shoving this 370 HP Boxster Spyder down our throats. Maybe it will wake us up, generally speaking.

Going from 0 to 100 km/h (62mph) in 4.5 seconds is also impressive, since that’s as fast as a 911 Carrera 4S Coupe.

But we get it. In a way we get way the Boxster is still flying under the radar. Even though technically it’s unbelievable, it’s still hard for it to fit in let’s say “socially” with the automotive industry’s premium sector.

Maybe Porsche can keep at it and turn this around somehow. The Boxster Spyder, just like the GTS, is definitely a fantastic start.
