The way the new Skoda Superb Combi looks will surprise none of the readers who are used to seeing renderings of upcoming models on this website.

When it arrives in European dealerships in September, shortly after its world debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show, the new Skoda Superb Combi is expected to set new standards in its segment “in terms of space, comfort, safety, connectivity and the environment.”

That’s because it has the largest interior space and luggage compartment within its class, with a total boot volume of 1,950 liters (68.8 cu-ft) with the rear seats folded flat and loaded up to the roof. In standard configuration, boot volume is 660 liters (23.3 cu-ft), 27 liters more than the previous model.

Based on the MQB platform, the wheelbase has been extended by 80mm to 2,841mm (111.8in). The track width has increased to 1,584mm (62.3in) at the front and to 1,572mm (61.9in) at the rear, resulting in an increased interior space.

Skoda says driver and passenger have 39mm more elbow room than before, while head room is 995mm in the front and 1,001mm in the rear – more than in any other model in the segment. Rear knee room is 157mm, which Skoda says is around twice as much as the next-best competitor. Elbow room in the rear has been increased by 70 mm.

The new Superb Combi will be offered with an array of new assistance systems for increased safety, eco-friendliness and comfort and will also feature Dynamic Chassis Control (DCC).

It will be available with the same EU6 engine lineup from the sedan, with Skoda saying the new Superb Combi is up to 30 percent more efficient than its predecessor. The petrol engines have outputs between 125PS (123hp) and 280PS (276hp), while the diesels range from 120PS (118hp) to 190PS (187hp). All-wheel drive capability is offered for four powertrains: 1.4 TSI 150PS, 2.0 TSI 280PS, 2.0 TDI 150PS and 2.0 TDI 190PS.

The new Skoda Superb Combi will also feature the latest generation of infotainment systems with SmartLink (MirrorLinkTM, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto technology) and optional high-speed internet connection.
