As Holden are getting ready to welcome a new and exciting member to their family, the 325 HP Insignia VXR, all we can say is that it was about time.

The Insignia VXR will be Holden‘s first ever all-wheel-drive turbocharged performance sedan, featuring a good-looking design, plenty of new tech and European quality all in one package.

Naturally, the “European quality” part came straight from the press release – and it’s something we wouldn’t really feel comfortable saying, knowing the fact that the Insignia features above average quality at best when it comes to its interior.

Still, it’s got the looks and quite decent performance, not to mention plenty of interior room which will surely attract Australian customers.

Performance-wise, the VXR uses a 2.8 liter turbocharged V6 engine, delivering 325 HP and 435 Nm (320 Nm) of torque, which when accompanied by a 6-speed automatic transmission, can get the car from 0 to 100 km/h in around 6.0 seconds.

Holden’s Director of Sales, Peter Keley said that “This car is sure to make customers who are looking for a true performance mid-size sedan take a serious look at this latest Holden,” and we completely agree. Not everybody may want a Commodore – even though we’d rather have that than any Insignia VXR.

To be fair, the Insignia VXR does have more power than the Commodore SV6, losing out only to the SS V8 version which packs 361 HP. Of course, if you want even more grunt, go for the HSV GTS with its 577 HP – but that’s a completely different animal.

Furthermore, the Insignia VXR will introduce three new technologies (new for Holden), such as Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Change Alert and Auto Emergency Braking, joining other advanced features like the Adaptive Forward Lighting, Blind Spot Alert and FlexRide Suspension.

Overall, they should be looking at a very complete and modern package, which is why we’re excited for Holden customers in Australia.

The Insignia VXR will arrive in dealerships next month.
