We’ve seen some pretty good commercials from Ram Trucks in recent years. Do you remember the one called “Farmer” which aired at the 2013 Super Bowl?

I like Ram commercials because they are honest and aim straight at the truck maker’s demographic: farmers, construction entrepreneurs, owners of small businesses.

But while I expected to see some of these people featured in Ram’s latest commercial, I was really surprised to see that the ad is actually a song. A beautiful country ballad written exclusively for Ram Trucks by singer Miranda Lambert.

Called “Roots & Wings,” it’s about “being who you are, working hard, staying true to your roots,” as Ram mentions in the video’s description on YouTube. What I find remarkable about this video is that it doesn’t promote the brand in an aggressive way, on the contrary: the only Ram-related thing is the pickup truck Miranda drives.

It’s all about the artist, the song, the lyrics – and obviously the message. As far as associations between brands and celebrities go, it’s hard to top this one.
