As Opel and Vauxhall’s 2016 Astra prototypes edge closer to looking like the car that will enter production later this year, so do artist renderings.

After studying the most recent Astra five-door hatchback testers that have freed themselves from the phony front and rear panels and lights, Dutch Photoshop enthusiast Remco Meulendijk revised his previous digital take on the car.

The front and rear ends of the compact model are now in line with the more revealing latest Astra prototypes. We’d say the renders are pretty close to what we’ll see in a few months, possibly earlier than the new Astra’s world premiere at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September.

Competing in the strong C-segment in Europe and elsewhere, the next iteration of GM’s compact hatch promises to thin down to the benefit of performance, fuel economy, emissions and handling, while also gaining new or updated engines under the hood, including a range of three- and four-cylinder units.
