Despite having a similar footprint and proportions to the car it replaces, the 2016 BMW 7-Series is an all-new model that brings significant technical advances.

Probably the most important is the weight loss allowed by the combination of carbon fiber structures with steel, aluminum, magnesium and plastic, with the 2016 7-Series being up to 130 kg (286 pounds) lighter.

I think most of you will agree that BMW has played it safe with the new 7-Series from a design point of view. The car clearly looks better than its predecessor (just my two cents), but it’s more of an evolution than a revolution, unlike when the new Mercedes-Benz S-Class replaced the previous generation model.

I may be wrong, but I believe BMW’s new flagship will remain attractive to people who owned previous-generation 7-Series models and the Bavarians will not be able to challenge the Mercedes-Benz S-Class’ supremacy in the segment.
