When it comes to straight line racing, if the power deficit is big enough and one of the cars isn’t extraordinarily heavy, there can only be one outcome.

In this case, we’re talking about a Twin Turbo Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8 that’s almost twice as powerful as the tuned 911 Turbo. Lucky for the Jeep, it’s not exactly twice as heavy.

The Grand Cherokee SRT8 (previous generation) usually comes in at about 2,179 kg (4,805 lbs) which is indeed a lot more than what the 911 Turbo weighs (1.6 tons), but not enough as to cancel a 550 HP advantage.

Off the line, the Porsche takes the lead for a short while, which was to be expected – but the Jeep catches up and blows by in no time. It did a standing 1/4 mile in 10.1 seconds, while the 911 did it in 10.6.

There was also a big difference in speed as the SRT was already doing 227 km/h (141 mph) to the 911s 208 km/h (129 mph) at the 1/4 mile mark.

Regardless of power, watching an SUV take on a supercar doesn’t exactly make for “good science”.

The problem is that when the weight deficit is that large, the drag race itself becomes less exciting, even if you still feel the need to know who won.

By the way, this was the same Grand Cherokee that last year couldn’t handle a 850 HP Nissan GT-R and especially couldn’t handle a 2,000 HP Gallardo. You can check those races out right here.
