It looks like MTM is ready to deliver a Group B-inspired version of Audi’s S1 if they find the people willing to pay for it.

MTM says that the project has already been designed by Roland Hall and that the 2.0-litre TFSI engine could produce as much as 450PS (444hp) in its final form. “I could manufacture a small production batch if I could find ten enthusiasts who were prepared to pay around €120,000 (about $134,000)”, said Roland Mayer, MTM boss, “and there would be full certification for road use as an added incentive.”

The first renderings of the car show that exact inspiration, with the widened panels, the aggressive bumpers and the huge rear wing, complete with not one but two vertical items in true Group B fashion. And there is even a retro livery that I’m guessing will make a whole lot of knees feeling weak.

The German tuner also says that if the customer wants an even stronger punch from his MTM A1 Quattro Group B, they could install the 5-cylinder 2.5TFSI engine from the 500hp A1 Nardo Edition which managed a very impressive top speed of 324km/h or 201mph on the Nardo test track or a racing sequential gearbox as an option.

So, the MTM A1 Quattro Group B is a road-legal, rally-inspired pocket spaceship that seeks customers. 10 of them actually but if more of them show up, I don’t think MTM will turn them away.
