What we have here is a classic case of inexperience coupled with just the right amount of ignorance. Fortunately, nobody was seriously hurt.

According to the description in the video, the accident took place in Bucharest, Romania and the driver of the old BMW had gotten his driver’s license barely a month ago.

The taxi was also occupied at the moment, though as we said before, there’s no indication that anybody was injured.

So who’s to blame here? Well, most of all, the BMW driver, since his illegal U-turn was as big a mistake as they get in modern day traffic situations. He should have waited to see if the tunnel was clear, and of course, he shouldn’t have turned at that exact spot.

But what about the taxi driver? Was he really sticking to the speed limit? By using a simple “eye test” the answer would be no.

As for avoiding the crash altogether? That seems kind of impossible, since there was no reason to assume there would be a car there just itching to execute one of the dumbest maneuvers in the world.

The distance was too short, regardless of reaction time or road conditions (that particular patch of road on the first lane wasn’t wet in the moments leading up to the crash).

Still, whenever you’re coming out of a tunnel, it pays to slow down before you reach a possible intersection or before you see your lane merge with any other lanes.
