What Are Audi’s LED Matrix Headlights Like On The Road?

It’s amusing how LED headlights barely made it to market and now a new and better tech is available in the form of lasers. But until those take over as the main means to light the road at night, diodes will grow in popularity and these systems’ complexity will increase.

Probably the most advanced LED headlight system on the market is Audi’s LED Matrix which has all sorts of cool functions we discussed in the article accompanying the system at launch. Now they’ve made their way into the hands of owners some of which decided to see just how effective these cool headlights really are.

We put together a little selection of videos which you can find below. It features different styles of footage but it’s all meant to aid your understanding of how these lights work, if you don’t already know.

If you own or have driven an Audi equipped with these headlights, do tell us what you thought of the experience in the comments box below!

I would definitely go for Matrix lights option instead of for example B&O sound system.

Well on 1st video at 0:57 the driver in front must have had enough light in his cabin 🙁

Else I find the flooding to be uneven, and less powerful than HID… I guess I’d stick to HID with AFS

    • Vassilis

I’m pretty sure LEDs are at least as powerful as Xenons.

      • Sébastien

Well I can’t measure, but from the video I’m not impressed (of course the features are impressive, but not as much as quality of light)

        • Vassilis

Although a video isn’t a decisive factor, I must say I was pleased with the quality of light and didn’t notice any deficiencies compared to my xenons. Hopefully in a few months I’ll know if LEDs are at least as good but manufacturers wouldn’t release them if they weren’t.

    Love this stuff!

Simply amazing, now we wait for the trickle down effect.
