China Creates Very Tesla-Like Concept For Model S Rivaling Electric Sedan

The Chinese automotive business model is ridiculous: even when they don’t blatantly copy another car’s design, they still like to give strange nods to the car that provided the inspiration. Take this newly unveiled electric sedan called the Youxia X.

At first glance, you’d think it’s an original design, a shape designers poured their inspiration and hearts into, but that’s not the case here. The front grille-thing (black trapezoidal front instert) is a straight up Tesla copy.

The shape of the whole front may not be especially Tesla-like, but the grille is definitely inspired by the fake bit of plastic Elon Musk thought would be necessary to make the Model S look less intimidating to traditional buyers.

Youxia could have pulled off the same trick, but at least they could have come up with an original shape.

The exterior design of this car is a strange mix of Tesla and the NX crossover, or just the very latest interpretation of the Lexus design language. Inside, the Tesla theme continues…

Regarding the specs, the vehicle is said to have an autonomy of 460 km / 285 miles and a power output of over 400 hp.

What would happen if a Toyota FCV tried to make a hydrogen baby out of a Tesla Model S while getting squeezed.

  • MultiKdizzle

    Headlights = Maserati Ghibli.

    • Andrei Nedelea

      Yes, that too.

  • Mike Gonzalez

i doubt this will be half as good as the Model S TBH…

    Lexus LF-LC Concept tailights…

    • MultiKdizzle

Oh, that’s where they’re from. I was trying to place them in my mind but couldn’t.

Say wha?? Is that a LED display in the front bumper?

  • Lovechild of Tesla and KITT. 🙂

  • Kagan Oztrak

I think this looks decent enough, the whole chinese-copy rhetoric doesnt apply to this one.

  • Kash

I see Model S meets Continental Concept with a splash of Ghibli in the front and LF-LC at the back.

If they pass NHTSA crash testing I’m in.

  • Alan Dean Foster

That is not a “fake bit of plastic” on the front of the model S. That is real, genuine plastic.

    • Andrei Nedelea

I meant fake grille made out of plastic 🙂

The Toyota-Lexus influences are very strong with this, while the greenhouse looks somewhat Mercedes. But it’s very nice, for a Chinese sedan. Does the black bar covering the front bumper have a LED screen beneath it that allowes you to change the logo? If they could invite some Porsche or Mercedes or BMW designers to “clean up” and “tighten up” some of the lines, bends, and angles of this car, it could really be something amazing, even if it’s still a copycat in other respects.

I actually like it better than Tesla!

  • donald seymour

And some how it comes off better than a Tesla.

  • Jerry Hightower

Better looking than the Tesla! The black tongue sticking out of the mouth is still goofy looking!

some droopy sloppy blob of wanna be. look at all that maserati air mixed with tackiness it has going on

To me this design doesn’t look like a model S on the outside but the interior is a copy.

That LED nosecone could be good for displaying emoticons to let fellow drivers know you’re happy or upset at their driving or let truckers know it’s safe to move in front of you (got cut off by a name-brand trucker this past weekend hauling two trailers because he couldn’t measure how far behind his tractor I was. Had I not be alert, I would have been caught by the second trailer’s wheels.)

Its a modified Tesla, rather get the Unplugged version of the Model S.

  • ironically the front grille is the only part I don’t like. Scoops in front!
