You might remember Clarkson asking his fans on Twitter which car should he drive on his final lap of Dunsfold Park. Well, even if the majority rooted for the LaFerrari, Jezza actually went for the 488 GTB.

Now, I admit the 488 isn’t quite as striking as Ferrari’s flagship, but that doesn’t make it less of an animal. Truth be told, the entire line-up was pretty amazing and any car was bound to be a good choice – if we were to analyze Clarkson’s motoring preferences – the grey AMG GT, the nero LaFerrari, or the rosso-corsa 488 GTB. Still, he had a go in the entry-level, mid-engine prancing horse.

In the process, Clarkson – together with Nick Mason and Marino Franchitti – managed to raise £100,000 ($155,600)for the “The Roundhouse in Camdon”, a charity event which provides opportunities for 11-25 year-olds to realize their potential in performing arts. According to Ferrari, two fans of the show placed each a £50,000 ($77,800) bid for the privilege of spending a morning with the former Top Gear presenter at the Top Gear test track.

Still, after a certain tweet, many thought that Clarkson went for the AMG GT:

“2 good things about the last lap. It raised a load of cash for a good cause. And I did the motherfuc@er of all tail slides through Chicago.”

Well, it seems that the 488 GTB also provides a lot of grunt and it’s quite tail happy. Who would have thought?
