According to a report by Edmunds, Hyundai wants to take a swing at the market sector where the likes of the Mazda CX-3 or Honda HR-V reside.

They did just reveal a model that is the right size, the Creta, but apparently that’s too conservative – they want something from the Lexus NX school of crossover design: it needs to polarize opinions.

Dave Zuchowski, president and CEO of Hyundai Motor America was quoted as saying “Creta is a vehicle that is more traditionally styled and it looks like a smaller version of the (Hyundai) Santa Fe. In our opinion, as we go into this segment, it is a great segment for Millennials, for Gen Y. It is a good youth vehicle and we think in order to tap that market, the thing should be styled less conservatively and more aggressively.

He concludes by saying “we have decided to wait a little bit longer to get the right vehicle.”

When and if it does come, this more striking crossover will likely share its platform with the Veloster, according to the same report.
