Meet Gheorghe Ungureanu, who back in 1976, when he was 24 years old, was caught drunk behind the wheel in Romania. At the time, his license was suspended and since he didn’t seem to want it back, it was eventually revoked.
You’d think that he never drove again, having been left scarred by the drunk-driving incident, but no; he actually didn’t want his license back because he was too busy driving all manner of vehicles from cars to small trucks without it!
He eventually left his native Romania and went on to work around Europe, and even ended up in France where he worked as… you guessed it: a driver. Apparently, he lied about how all his documents had been stolen and that was enough to get him the job.
Working as a driver was what he did for 39 years until yesterday when he was caught speeding on one local road, close to his home, doing some 25 km/h or 15 mph over the limit. It’s ironic that he drove all those years and never had a single incident, nor was he ever stopped for a routine check… He’s now awaiting a sentence from the local judges – he could face up to three years in jail.
