Sports car buyers nowadays are often faced with the choice of going for either the manual or the automatic. Buyers of BMW M4s and M3s are no different, as they are offered both, each with its own pros and cons.

It’s no surprise most go for the twin-clutch seven-speed as it’s a great transmission: smooth in the quieter modes and jolty in its most aggressive setting. The manual offers a more intimate connection to the car, but it is slower and it’s not available with the launch control function.

Even so, it does come with downshift rev-matching, which seems to work really well even when shifting down more than one gears.

As the video, in the end it’s just a matter of preference and the willingness to lose a few tenths on outright acceleration in favor of a more “analogue” feeling.
